20 (A)“Whoever sacrifices to any god, other than the Lord alone, shall be devoted to destruction.[a]

21 (B)“You shall not wrong a sojourner or oppress him, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt. 22 (C)You shall not mistreat any widow or fatherless child. 23 If you do mistreat them, and they (D)cry out to me, I will surely (E)hear their cry, 24 and my wrath will burn, and I will kill you with the sword, and (F)your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless.

25 (G)“If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you shall not be like a moneylender to him, and you shall not exact interest from him. 26 (H)If ever you take your neighbor's cloak in pledge, you shall return it to him before the sun goes down, 27 for that is his only covering, and it is his cloak for his body; in what else shall he sleep? And if he (I)cries to me, I will hear, for I am (J)compassionate.

28 (K)“You shall not revile God, nor (L)curse a ruler of your people.

29 “You shall not delay to offer from the fullness of your harvest and from the outflow of your presses. (M)The firstborn of your sons you shall give to me. 30 (N)You shall do the same with your oxen and with your sheep: (O)seven days it shall be with its mother; on the eighth day you shall give it to me.

31 (P)“You shall be consecrated to me. Therefore (Q)you shall not eat any flesh that is torn by beasts in the field; (R)you shall throw it to the dogs.

23 (S)“You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man to be a (T)malicious witness. You shall not fall in with the many to do evil, nor shall you bear witness in a lawsuit, siding with the many, so as to pervert justice, (U)nor shall you be partial to a poor man in his lawsuit.

(V)“If you meet your enemy's ox or his donkey going astray, you shall bring it back to him. If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying down under its burden, you shall refrain from leaving him with it; you shall rescue it with him.

(W)“You shall not pervert the justice due to your poor in his lawsuit. (X)Keep far from a false charge, and (Y)do not kill the innocent and righteous, for (Z)I will not acquit the wicked. (AA)And you shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds the clear-sighted and subverts the cause of those who are in the right.

(AB)“You shall not oppress a sojourner. You know the heart of a sojourner, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.

Laws About the Sabbath and Festivals

10 (AC)“For six years you shall sow your land and gather in its yield, 11 but the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, that the poor of your people may eat; and what they leave the beasts of the field may eat. You shall do likewise with your vineyard, and with your olive orchard.

12 (AD)“Six days you shall do your work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; that your ox and your donkey may have rest, and the son of your servant woman, and the alien, may be refreshed.

13 (AE)“Pay attention to all that I have said to you, and make no mention of the names of other gods, nor let it be heard on your lips.

14 (AF)“Three times in the year you shall keep a feast to me. 15 (AG)You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. As I commanded you, you shall eat unleavened bread for seven days at the appointed time in the month of (AH)Abib, for in it you came out of Egypt. (AI)None shall appear before me empty-handed. 16 You shall keep (AJ)the Feast of Harvest, of the firstfruits of your labor, of what you sow in the field. You shall keep the (AK)Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather in from the field the fruit of your labor. 17 (AL)Three times in the year shall all your males appear before the Lord God.

  1. Exodus 22:20 That is, set apart (devoted) as an offering to the Lord (for destruction)

41 So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, (A)“I am the bread that came down from heaven.” 42 They said, (B)“Is not this Jesus, (C)the son of Joseph, whose father and mother (D)we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” 43 Jesus answered them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. 44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me (E)draws him. And (F)I will raise him up on the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets, (G)‘And they will all be (H)taught by God.’ (I)Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me— 46 (J)not that anyone has seen the Father except (K)he who is from God; he (L)has seen the Father. 47 Truly, truly, I say to you, (M)whoever believes has eternal life. 48 (N)I am the bread of life. 49 (O)Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and (P)they died. 50 (Q)This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it (R)and not die. 51 I am the living bread (S)that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give (T)for the life of the world is (U)my flesh.”

52 The Jews then (V)disputed among themselves, saying, (W)“How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” 53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of (X)the Son of Man and drink his blood, you (Y)have no life in you. 54 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood (Z)has eternal life, and (AA)I will raise him up on the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood (AB)abides in me, and I in him. 57 As (AC)the living Father (AD)sent me, and (AE)I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. 58 (AF)This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread[a] the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” 59 Jesus[b] said these things in the synagogue, as he taught (AG)at Capernaum.

The Words of Eternal Life

60 (AH)When many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” 61 But Jesus, (AI)knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, “Do you take offense at this? 62 Then what if you were to see (AJ)the Son of Man (AK)ascending to (AL)where he was before? 63 (AM)It is the Spirit who gives life; (AN)the flesh is no help at all. (AO)The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64 But (AP)there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus (AQ)knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and (AR)who it was who would betray him.) 65 And he said, “This is why I told you (AS)that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.”

66 (AT)After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. 67 So Jesus said to (AU)the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have (AV)the words of eternal life, 69 and (AW)we have believed, and have come to know, that (AX)you are (AY)the Holy One of God.” 70 Jesus answered them, (AZ)“Did I not choose you, (BA)the twelve? And yet one of you is (BB)a devil.” 71 He spoke of Judas (BC)the son of Simon Iscariot, for (BD)he, one of the twelve, was going to betray him.

Conquest of Canaan Promised

20 (D)“Behold, I send an angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared. 21 Pay careful attention to him and obey his voice; (E)do not rebel against him, (F)for he will not pardon your transgression, for my name is in him.

22 “But if you carefully obey his voice and do all that I say, then (G)I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.

23 (H)“When my angel goes before you and brings you (I)to the Amorites and the Hittites and the Perizzites and the Canaanites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, and I blot them out, 24 you shall (J)not bow down to their gods nor serve them, (K)nor do as they do, but (L)you shall utterly overthrow them and break their (M)pillars in pieces. 25 You (N)shall serve the Lord your God, and (O)he[a] will bless your bread and your water, and (P)I will take sickness away from among you. 26 (Q)None shall miscarry or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the (R)number of your days. 27 I will send (S)my terror before you and will throw into (T)confusion all the people against whom you shall come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. 28 And (U)I will send hornets[b] before you, which shall drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites from before you. 29 (V)I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the wild beasts multiply against you. 30 Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and possess the land. 31 (W)And I will set your border from the Red Sea to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the Euphrates,[c] for (X)I will give the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you. 32 (Y)You shall make no covenant with them and their gods. 33 They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me; for if you serve their gods, (Z)it will surely be a snare to you.”

The Whole Armor of God

10 Finally, (A)be strong in the Lord and in (B)the strength of his might. 11 (C)Put on (D)the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against (E)the schemes of the devil. 12 For (F)we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against (G)the rulers, against the authorities, against (H)the cosmic powers over (I)this present darkness, against (J)the spiritual forces of evil (K)in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore (L)take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in (M)the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, (N)having fastened on the belt of truth, and (O)having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, (P)as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up (Q)the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all (R)the flaming darts of (S)the evil one; 17 and take (T)the helmet of salvation, and (U)the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying (V)at all times (W)in the Spirit, (X)with all prayer and supplication. To that end, (Y)keep alert with all perseverance, making (Z)supplication for all the saints, 19 and (AA)also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth (AB)boldly to proclaim (AC)the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I (AD)am an ambassador (AE)in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.

Final Greetings

21 (AF)So that you also may know how I am and what I am doing, (AG)Tychicus the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord will tell you everything. 22 I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may (AH)encourage your hearts.

23 (AI)Peace be to the brothers,[a] and (AJ)love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Grace be with all who (AK)love our Lord Jesus Christ with love incorruptible.
