^20 (A)“Whoever sacrifices to any god, other than the Lord alone, shall be devoted to destruction.^[a]

²⁹ “You shall not delay to offer from the fullness of your harvest and from the outflow of your presses. ^(M)The firstborn of your sons you shall give to me. ^30 (N)You shall do the same with your oxen and with your sheep: ^(O)seven days it shall be with its mother; on the eighth day you shall give it to me.

23 ^(S)“You shall not spread a false report. Laws About the Sabbath and Festivals

^10 (AC)“For six years you shall sow your land and gather in its yield, ¹¹ but the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, that the poor of your people may eat; and what they leave the beasts of the field may eat. You shall do likewise with your vineyard, and with your olive orchard.

^12 (AD)“Six days you shall do your work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; that your ox and your donkey may have rest, and the son of your servant woman, and the alien, may be refreshed.

The Words of Eternal Life

^60 (AH)When many of his disciples heard it, they said, “This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?” ⁶¹ But Jesus, ^(AI)knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, “Do you take offense at this? ⁶² Then what if you were to see ^(AJ)the Son of Man ^(AK)ascending to ^(AL)where he was before? ^63 (AM)It is the Spirit who gives life; ^(AN)the flesh is no help at all. ^(AO)The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. ⁶⁴ But ^(AP)there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus ^(AQ)knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and ^(AR)who it was who would betray him.) ⁶⁵ And he said, “This is why I told you ^(AS)that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.”

Conquest of Canaan Promised

^20 (D)“Behold, I send an angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared. ²¹ Pay careful attention to him and obey his voice; ^(E)do not rebel against him, ^(F)for he will not pardon your transgression, for my name is in him.

²² “But if you carefully obey his voice and do all that I say, then ^(G)I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.

^23 (H)“When my angel goes before you and brings you ^(I)to the Amorites and the Hittites and the Perizzites and the Canaanites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, and I blot them out, ²⁴ you shall ^(J)not bow down to their gods nor serve them, ^(K)nor do as they do, but ^(L)you shall utterly overthrow them and break their ^(M)pillars in pieces. ²⁵ You ^(N)shall serve the Lord your God, and ^(O)he^[a] will bless your bread and your water, and ^(P)I will take sickness away from among you. ^26 (Q)None shall miscarry or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the ^(R)number of your days. ²⁷ I will send ^(S)my terror before you and will throw into ^(T)confusion all the people against whom you shall come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. ²⁸ And ^(U)I will send hornets^[b] before you, which shall drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites from before you. ^29 (V)I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the wild beasts multiply against you. ³⁰ Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and possess the land. ^31 (W)And I will set your border from the Red Sea to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the Euphrates,^[c] for ^(X)I will give the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you. ^32 (Y)You shall make no covenant with them and their gods. ³³ They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me; for if you serve their gods, ^(Z)it will surely be a snare to you.”

The Whole Armor of God

¹⁰ Finally, ^(A)be strong in the Lord and in ^(B)the strength of his might. ^11 (C)Put on ^(D)the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against ^(E)the schemes of the devil. ¹² For ^(F)we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against ^(G)the rulers, against the authorities, against ^(H)the cosmic powers over ^(I)this present darkness, against ^(J)the spiritual forces of evil ^(K)in the heavenly places. ¹³ Therefore ^(L)take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in ^(M)the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. ¹⁴ Stand therefore, ^(N)having fastened on the belt of truth, and ^(O)having put on the breastplate of righteousness, ¹⁵ and, ^(P)as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. ¹⁶ In all circumstances take up ^(Q)the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all ^(R)the flaming darts of ^(S)the evil one; ¹⁷ and take ^(T)the helmet of salvation, and ^(U)the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, ¹⁸ praying ^(V)at all times ^(W)in the Spirit, ^(X)with all prayer and supplication. To that end, ^(Y)keep alert with all perseverance, making ^(Z)supplication for all the saints, ¹⁹ and ^(AA)also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth ^(AB)boldly to proclaim ^(AC)the mystery of the gospel, ²⁰ for which I ^(AD)am an ambassador ^(AE)in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
